Volunteer Coaches: SLA is a volunteer organization and requires the active participation of the parents for the program to run effectively. Coaches are always in demand especially for the inexperienced or younger players. PLEASE consider volunteering to be a coach. No experience is required to start and you'll learn with the players. Just be willing to learn and enjoy the sport. There are several clinics in our area to help you get started. Please see our calendar page for more information about coaches clinics.

Volunteer Code of Conduct
I. Policy Statement: Lacrosse
The STAFFORD LACROSSE ASSOCIATION (SLA) is committed to the exhibition of sportsmanship and ethical behavior in and around all athletic contests played under its sanction. All contests must be safe, fair, controlled and orderly for all athletes, officials and fans alike.
It is the intent of the SLA that violence in any form is not to be tolerated in athletic contests or practices under the jurisdiction of this association. In order to enforce this policy, the SLA has establish rules and regulations in cooperation with appropriate coaches and administrator groups, which set forth the manner of enforcement of this policy and the penalties incurred when violations of this policy occur. The rules and regulations shall focus upon the responsibility of the coach to teach and demand high standards of conduct and to enforce personally the rules and regulations set forth by SLA.
The Stafford Lacrosse Association requires that the following code of ethics and disclosure be issued and signed by each head coaches, assistant coaches, and any other volunteers each season as a guide to govern their behavior. In addition, all head coaches and assistant coaches shall read and sign in acknowledgement their understanding of the Northern Virginia Youth Lacrosse League rules and regulations. The penalty for failing to sign either copy of these policies will be to restrict the coach, asst. coach, or the volunteer from participating in SLA programs.
II. Code of Conduct for Head Coach, Assistant Coach(es), and other SLA volunteers:
Be courteous and respectful at all times (with players, opponents, game officials and fans).
Exercise self-control.
There shall be no use of foul and abusive language.
Be familiar with all rules of the contest.
Respect the integrity and judgement of game officials.
There shall be no use of illegal and non-prescription drugs, anabolic steroids or any substance to increase physical development or performance that is not approved by a medical doctor.
There shall be no use of tobacco products or alcoholic beverages at SLA functions.
Win with character, lose with dignity.
No remarks, e-mails, degrading in nature of any sort towards an Association member or the Association in general.
Volunteers will be positive about their teams as well as the Association.
I have read and understand the Policy Statement and Code of Conduct for Coaches, Asst. Coaches and volunteers and the violations and minimum penalties of the Code of Conduct Policy. I agree to abide by the policy while participating in SLA athletics regardless of contest site or jurisdiction. Failure to follow The Code of Conduct Policy will result in termination of services by that individual.
